Anton Shamatonov is the managing partner of MAGENTA Legal. With over 15 years of experience in the legal profession and more than 10 years of experience in legal consulting and commercial law, he has been leading MAGENTA Legal since 2023.

Anton specializes in representing clients in complex projects and transactions, as well as in supporting international business.

He has a high level of expertise in arbitration and litigation. He represents the interests of both Russian and foreign companies in Russian courts of general jurisdiction and arbitral tribunals at all levels (including the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation), foreign judicial bodies, and international commercial arbitration (including the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS), the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation) in corporate and contractual disputes, as well as bankruptcy cases. While working at the Supreme Commercial Court of the Russian Federation, Anton represented its interests in disputes with other state bodies and organizations.

Anton has been engaged as an expert on Russian corporate law in international commercial arbitration (Germany).

Additionally, Anton advises clients on Russian contract law, investment law (real estate), mergers and acquisitions transactions, and provides relevant support in conducting due diligence.

Anton graduated from the Law Faculty of the National Research University Higher School of Economics and obtained a Master of Laws degree from the Russian School of Private Law (State Institute, Moscow). He is the author of numerous publications on legal issues in Russian and English.

He is fluent in English at a professional level, as well as working proficiency in German and French.

Anton has been mentioned as a Recommended Lawyer in the field of Foreign Economic Activity (according to the most reputable Russian law firms ranking PRAVO-300 in the years 2019, 2020, 2021).

 

Selected projects

  • Legal advising for the developer of the group of companies "Samolyot" in connection with the acquisition of a Moscow developer – the "MIC" group of companies ( Project value is over RUB 40 billion).
  • Legal advising for one of the leaders in the Russian alcoholic beverages market in a dispute with a Chinese supplier of production equipment.
  • Advising a European group of companies (organic waste recycling) on matters related to import of equipment into Russia. Project value – more than EUR 3.5 million.
  • Legal advising of the procedure for legalizing illegally constructed commercial real estate in Moscow and protecting the company from the risk of losing the right to lease land due to violations.
  • Legal advising to German group of companies (footwear & clothes manufacturer) in various matters related to labelling in Russia (digital Data Matrix codes introduction), customs law.
  • Providing advice to a German group of companies (beauty sector) in customs law issues related to statistics forms and penalties for failure to submit those in time. Representing client’s interests in Russian courts. Project value – more than EUR 250 thousand.
  • Legal advising in the buyout of a production land plot from a public owner for a Belgian-Luxembourg holding in the Moscow region, including representation in arbitration courts.
  • Providing legal advice to a Singapore company (paints) in restructuring their business in Russia: importing goods into the EAEU through branches. Currency regulation, customs law issues. Project value estimate EUR 300 thousand.
  • Legal advice to the German group of companies in the matters of cross-border currency regulation (Kazakhstan and Russia). Project value exceeds EUR 300 thousand.
  • Legal advising a leading Russian pharmaceutical distributor in a CISG commercial dispute in the German Arbitration Institute (DIS). Project value exceeds EUR 2 million
  • Representation of international manufacturer of construction materials in litigation for infringement of violation of import regulations and trademark law (“parallel import")
  • Strategic consulting on protection of distributor’s rights in process of termination of distribution agreement
  • Full legal advising in the establishment of a joint venture between a German group of companies and a Russian holding. The estimated project value is EUR 100 million.
